Foyle Family Justice Centre

The Foyle Family Justice Centre (FFJC) is the first of its kind in the UK or Ireland.

The model goes beyond the traditional notion of agencies and support organisations collaborating and sees staff from all partner agencies physically located in the same building and working under one roof.

The rationale for this is simple: it reduces the number of times victims have to recount their ordeal; it reduces the number of places they have to go for help; and it increases access to a wider range of support services for victims.

Foyle Family Justice Centre will be part of the European Family Justice Centre Alliance (EFJCA) which is the officially recognised network of FJCs in Europe. The mission of the EFJCA is to create pathways to hope for all who are victims of domestic violence and related sexual assault through collaborative, integrated, multi-disciplinary centres, teams and initiatives in order to break the generational cycle of violence and abuse in families across Europe and around the world.

Family Justice Centre model

The Family Justice Centre model has been identified as best practice in the field of domestic violence intervention and prevention services by the US Department of Justice. It is a growing movement with more than 130 centres worldwide and a further 100 in development.

Their value is substantiated by independent research and the outcomes attributed to the FJC model include reduced homicides; increased victim safety; increased power and autonomy for victims; reduced fear and anxiety in victims and children; increased efficiency in collaborative services; increased prosecution of offenders; increased community support for services to victims.
